Leaders at 28 Km (17 miles), the pack includes Treacy, Lopes, Ikangaa, DeCastella, Takeshi and
Shigherou Soh, Spedding, Seko, Robleh Djama and Ahmed Saleh from Djibouti.

Seko and Roble Djama (Dji), Seko starts to feel bad and throws his cap away.

At that stage, Salazar was 42 seconds behind the leaders.

At 31Km, Jerry Kiernan (Ireland- green, yellow shoes) coming from behind
joins the leading group.

Rod Dixon (NZL) was always behind the leading group

Hugh Jones (GBR) and Salazar running together in the
final stages of the Marathon.

Robert DeCastella, Djama and Seko weren't able to keep up the pace

Nobody is able to follow Lopes. He increased his rythm from
180 to 190 strides (steps) per minute.


After Lopes pulled away, just Spedding and Treacy tried to
follow him unsuccessfully. Treacy checking behind the position of Nzau.

Carlos Lopes win with new Olympic Record (2:09:21) last 5K in 14:30!!

Treacy beats Spedding in the final 250m to win silver in (2:09:56) his first
Marathon ever. Spedding (Bronze) 2:09:58. Takeshi Soh (Jap) fourth in 2:10:55
Beating Seko in a marathon for first time.

An exhausted Castella beats Iknagaa to 5th place (2:11:09).
Ikangaa was 6th in (2:11:10). Check his notes on his left hand
used to control his rythm.

Pfitzinger , 11th place (2:13:53) running negative splits.
He was the first from the American Continent, catching Jorge Gonzalez
from Puerto Rico (2:14:00).
