Salvatore Antibo (Ita, 4th place in 28'06), Mike McLeod (GBR) who finally took 2nd, after Vainio being DQ.
Craig Virgin (USA) he did not make the final. Mamede was the favorite but like usual, in big events, never was a factor.

In the final, Alberto Cova (Ita) and Marti Vainio (Finland) surged with 9 laps to go.
Later, Vainio would be DQ..
